If I arrive and there's spaghetti all over the kitchen area, or if there are toys all over the house, or there's laundry and stuff scattered about, and there's clutter everywhere, it's going to take a lot more time than I'm bidding for right now. When the time for that house is up, you can't keep remaining and cleaning up, because then you lose earnings from the next home you're supposed to go provide service. When I bid the task, your home was in this condition, and now that I've gotten here, every time there's more and more mess.
I did not budget the mess time into the task and the rate that I offered you. Would you like me to charge you more money and require time away from another client so that I can broaden your window of time, or would you like to pick up the mess prior to me arriving?"
Now, a great deal of people when you provide the choice, they do not wish to pay the additional money, because house cleaning is not inexpensive, and they can inexpensively get their own toys, or teach their kids to put things away after they're done. I've seen very, very tiny kids that are trained to put their toys away when they're done playing. It is an easily leaned lesson, and it's something a parent can learn and teach their kids. Then kids can help moms and dads save that money rather than pay it to the maid service.
So it's just a conversation you need to have. Don't worry about if they're going to be upset.
